IMG_20140630_150454 IMG_20140630_150518While modern Oradea is first mentioned in 1113, under the Latin name Varadinum in a diploma belonging to a Benedictine Zobor Abbey – Bishop Sixtus Varadiensis and Saul de Bychar are mentioned in the document – recent archaeological findings, in and around the city, provide evidence of a more or less continuous habitation since the Neolithic. Little is known about the city’s early history however it is presumed that it changed hands between the various people that inhabited the area, most notably the Dacians and Celts. After their conquest of Dacia the Romans and established a presence around the city, most notably in the Salca district of the city and in the area around modern day Băile Felix.
